Summer Recap: This summer we had a great deal of fun activities, the children loved the reptile show, most of the children were brave enough to touch the reptiles although some looked from afar. Each week our class was eager for splash day to get outside and play in the water. The end of summer was a huge water slide and once the children were in it, we had a hard time to get them away from the slide.
September Recap: September 5th started the official school year. We began to learn “All about Me.” with many new faces we wanted everyone to feel welcome and to express themselves. We are also having the children being introduced or reminded of the letters A, B, C, D. As well as practicing recognizing colors and the daily calendar routine. While learning the letters, we introduce the sand paper letters that correspond to the letter we are talking about that week. We will also encourage communication between classmates and teachers. Enrichments will also take place in our classroom. Music and movement with instruments, cooking of short recipes, easy for our students to make with their families, art with painting and Spanish class.
October Recap: We worked on five sense and feelings, we used discussion to talk about what body parts that we use for each of the five senses. We incorporated art with our five senses, using our handprints, googly eyes, texture collages and painting to music. We also emphasized on letters of the week which were E, F, G, H while reviewing A-H. Our share days have been a major success and the children have been loving to share with their class what they have brought each day. In our Montessori work we concentrated on spooning small objects, using tongs, fruit sorting, sandpaper letters, and number rods. Each enrichment was fun and creative, we made pumpkin pie dip with Nilla wafers, ants on a log. We also learned more Spanish phrases and got to use musical instruments that a parent shared.
November Recap: This month we focused on harvest and healthy bodies. We also discussed the globe and what the difference is with water and land. We incorporated what kind of plants or objects grow in each of the four seasons. With an emphasis of Fall, we did some fall art projects, a leaf collage, vegetable stamps and thanksgiving cards as well as working on the continent map. We also learned the sounds of the letters of the week which this month was: I, J, K while reviewing the other letters as well. The share days which are on Fridays have been very successful, the children have been loving it. In our practical life work, we concentrated on leaf sorting, vegetable cutting, fruit cutting and setting the table. In our Sensorial work we practiced on red rods, baric table rough and smooth and fabric box. In language we have been using our letters of the week and the share days emphasis on our lessons for that week. Math lessons have been with number puzzles and number matching. Science and on concentration on the globe as well as a cultural map and land, also we explored a pumpkin carving and sorting work. Enrichments have been great with our class and the children are still very intrigued.
December Recap: We used discussion to talk about. What is the weather like in winter? What is your favorite holiday? And have you seen snow? Along with weather song, holiday show songs? And more holiday songs. We incorporated art with our winter theme, using our tringle collage, holiday decorations and snow art. We also emphasized on letters of the week with were L, M, N. our share days have been so much fun, and the children have been loving to share with their class. What they have brought each week. In our Montessori: work we concentrate on sandpaper L, M, N number rods, culture season cards, weather cards, cards, and counters, using tongs. We also continuing learned more Spanish phrases and our cooking class which they really love it.
January Recap: We talked about winter animals and hibernation. We used discussion to talk about; Where do animals live? What animals like the cold weather?, What animals hibernate?, How does an animal prepare for hibernation? and What happens when the animals wake up? We incorporated our Art to include; the habitat, animals, The Mitten story, bears and hibernation cave art. We also emphasized on the letters O, P,Q and R. Our share days have been a major success and the children have been loving to share with their classmates. In our Montessori work we concentrated on Practical Life: spooning, sorting and folding. For our sensorial practice, we with the sound cylinder, fabrics and the Pink tower. Language concepts was worked with sand paper letters, matching, cards and reviewing sounds. Number puzzles, sand paper numbers were for Math this month. Science and culture, we discussed land, water globe, continent map and using the world map.
February Recap: February we worked on Cultural Awareness and Friendship. We used our discussion time to talk about culture, what is i? How we can make friends, family traditions, and how we can change the world. We also emphasized on the letter “S”, “T”, “U” and “V”. On share days, the children have been excited to share their items from home with their classmates. For our Montessori work, we concentrated on spooning, matching, cleaning, puzzle, tongs, lids and containers. We also practiced carrying a rug for practical life. We used the pink Tower, knobbed cylinders, Broad stairs and color table 1 for our sensory work. For our math work we used sand paper number, puzzles, calendar number and number rods. We expressed our feelings and communicated our feelings, practiced recognizing our first names and letter sounds for our language work. Asia was a big part of our cultural and science work this month.
March Recap: This month we learned about the different types of dinosaur’s names. We also discussed about where dinosaurs lived. Apart from learning about dinosaurs, we also learned about the continent of Africa, including the peoples’ traditions and food. This month we learned about pink towers, broad stairs, color tables, and cylinders using sensorial fundamentals. We went over sandpaper letters, following directions, communicating feelings, and reading books using language skills. For mathematics we matched cards, did puzzles, learned about calendar, numbers and counting. Our Montessori lessons entailed language, science, practical life, and sensorial senses. This is especially beneficial for the children to learn. Combining knowledge of the real world and satiating curiosity as well as learning to apply learned materials in real world situations allows for a more enriching experience in day-to-day life. This promotes independent thinking and the synthesizing of new questions.This month we brought in a special guest and he read to us. He also led us into a discussion where we talked about Dr. Seuss. We also learned the letters “w, x, y, and z.” We hid Easter eggs and did an Easter egg hunt. The children had so much fun! Enrichment for this month was based on learning new skills such as Spanish words, cooking, music, and movement. We also had a share day every Friday where all were encouraged to share their favorite things that pertained to the letter they were learning for that week. They absolutely loved it, and it helped many learn how to communicate in front of an audience.This month was full of learning, fun, and most importantly: full of enriching experiences.
April Recap: This month we learned about the planet earth, why the sky is blue and how we can take care of the earth. We learned how to water plants and recycle. The children learned about Australia and New Zealand this month. The geography of those two places in Oceania was also part of our learning curriculum. We also learned about the Pacific Islands. We discussed the foods and traditions of those regions in Oceania. Our Montessori lessons entailed practical life learning about spooning, opening and closing containers, and carrying a chair as well as watering plants. For sensorial, we worked with knobbed cylinders, red rod and color box number 1. For language we worked with puzzles, objects to pictures, and I Spy. For math, we worked with sandpaper numbers, cards and counters.Our special project we did this month was the Week of the Young Child spirit week. During spirit week the children enjoyed dressing up. We had twin day, hero day and decades day. Every Friday we shared objects of things they like that start with the letter that is also the letter of the week here in class. Enrichment for this month was based on cooking, Spanish class, music, and movement. This month was full of adventure, excitement, and learning.
May Recap: This month we learned about rainforests, and South America. We learned about the types of animals that live in the Rainforest and habitat. We learned about Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, and Argentina. This included customs, way of life, culture, language, and the local religions, as well as clothing styles and how each family comes in reunions and has fun. We enjoyed observing the butterfly cycle in real life. They start as caterpillar then they hide in a chrysalis as they transform to a beautiful butterfly. Moreover, we will incorporate Montessori activities, enrichment programs, and like usual, share day Fridays. Our Montessori lessons entailed practical life; spooning, opening and closing containers, and carrying a chair as well as watering plants. For sensorial work we used knobbed cylinders and red rods. For language we worked with puzzles, objects and pictures. Math, we worked with sandpaper numbers, cards, and counters. I am so excited to have new material for the children to benefit and grow from. They will start using the material this coming week. Our special project we did this month was enjoying a tea party with the children and our mothers for Mothers Day. We hope the mothers liked the special frames with the beautiful picture of their child.Enrichment for this month was based on cooking, Spanish class, music and movement. This month the children enjoyed quality time with their mothers, trying new things, new friendships, a special welcome to our new friend in our classroom.
June Recap: This month we learned about transportation, and California. We discussed the various modes of transportation. For example, traveling by car, plane, train, and subway. Also, we talked about California and its different weather in different parts of the region. Certain things such as wind, and temperature, were an important concept. We were also locating cities on the map of California such as Corona: this is so that the children have a general idea of where they live. Moreover, we incorporated Montessori jobs, enrichment programs, and like usual, share day Fridays. Our Montessori lessons entailed practical life, like spooning, opening, and closing containers, carrying a rug as well of cleaning the tables. For Grace and curtesy, we practiced washing our hands and cleaning our noses. For sensorial, we worked with the pink tower, broad stairs, knobbed cylinders, and red rods. For language, we worked with transportation 3-part cards, parts of the frog part cards, puzzles, and our new metal insert material. For math, we worked with sand paper numbers, spin box, puzzles numbers, and number rod. Our special project we did this month, was a party for Father’s Day with the children and the moms too. We hope the Dads liked the special foot prints that the children created Our special enrichment for this month was based on Spanish class, music, movement, and yoga. This month the children enjoyed quality time with their Fathers trying new things, new friendships, and a special welcome to our new friend in our classroom.
